Playlist Controversy
| Approximate Reading Time: 1 min. 25 sec. So on the wknc.org forums Big Fat Sac beat down my playlist. I understand his position and dont take it personally. But I do think one part about my show is that while WKNC is known as an indie rock station, and 90% of the songs I play fall into the "non-commercialized" category, the other 10% are straight up rock and roll that everyone enjoys and everyone recgonizes. Even if it isnt necessarily a song that would fall into the stingy genre ideas of some DJs, I think the songs that are a little on the outside are nevertheless popular enough for people to not change the dial, but are probably in some sort of radio limbo where they never get played anywhere else. Take my first show ever as example: I played Purple Rain and Space Oddity back to back. Certainly outside the typical indie and electonic-pop mesh that is regularly head on WKNC, but still not played on say 96.1 or 100.7. Songs like this dont make up my show, but they hold it together. I think it seperates me from a lot of other DJs and I enjoy that. One thing that is great about WKNC and is different from all other stations is that I feel like the DJ has so much more creativity and involvement with the music. It makes for a much more diverse and exciting time when people listen. Things just never get old. To see the conversation me and Sac had click here. Shackathon starts tomorrow! Im gonna be out there early in the morning, so no one will probably see me, but I definitely will be hanging around all week, and I hope everyone has a chance to stop by and buy a t-shirt or a goody bag. All proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity & a little of it goes to WKNC (which is non-profit). I also want to extend invites to people to send requests all week. Its been a relatively slow week, and I need to hear some noise! Shoot me a request on AIM or email! One last thing is that I updated my profile on WKNC's website. It was old and had my old times and stuff. Sorry bout that, I got lazy. Its all updated now though. |
