Killer show today. I got in there a little early and was just feeling like I needed to just rock out. I played some old stuff, new stuff, slow and fast, jazz and hardcore, everything. It just all seemed right. I don't think Ive had so many calls since I began the one hour show. So many requests and even more people just telling me that I was really playing some good stuff. There was one call where like it sounded 20 guys sitting around just rocking out all yelling into the phone. I got so many compliments. My head has swelled like a balloon. I had tons of phone calls and IMs today, and Im expecting a couple emails too. All the requests were really good songs that I was more than happy to play. Usually I get some crappy requests, but the callers today were great.
I went to the Dave Matthews Concert last night. It was alright. Im not the biggest Dave fan, but I got tickets for free and took my boy Kev. Front row parking too. One thing that has always bothered me about Dave Matthews concerts is that instead of being the sweet rock out show with insanely flawless and beautiful music it should be, they are always just giant frat parties. Say what you like, but to me half the crowd doesn't listen, and most of the people in the crowd are there to talk to their friends and socialize. Everyone is wearing khakis and polos with upside down backwards visors and sunglasses around their neck. Get real, its a concert. Its so annoying when the only songs people listen to are the big hits and the rest of the time people are just talking and throwing stuff at each other.
Getting off the soap box I want to throw out there that the Dave Matthews Band is simply phenomenal live. Every musician is so tuned in to their band mates. Every note is perfectly matched by another instrument and their jams are solid. Its wonderful to see a band that actually cares about the music they play and can take it to new heights. Not many rock bands can evolve their music back and forth in every song like DMB can.
Me and Kev also started talking to this chick named April. She was cool as hell and turns out, she listens to 88.1. She also owns a spa and told me that if I gave her a shoutout on the air Id get a free massage. Well April, I gave you your shoutout. Wheres my massage? :-P
